TBolts Look to Topple Grays Tonight at Talbot
WASHINGTON, JULY 10—Since Thursday night’s game against the Bethesda Big Train was cancelled, the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts (7-21) will carry their voltage to the nation’s capital tonight. Their task at hand will be to take down the DC Grays (10-17), who have not played a full game since Monday.
On Wednesday, the TBolts took an early 7-4 lead against the Big Train, but not before Bethesda exploded for six unanswered runs in the sixth inning. In their 10-7 loss, the Thunderbolts offense thrived with 10 hits. Despite their seven-run success, pitching issued 10 walks, the defense committed two errors, and they ultimately struggled to find the strike zone.
The Grays and TBolts both sit at the bottom of their respective division standings, and they have both struggled defensively this summer. The Grays have conceded the most earned runs with 186, and the TBolts trail shortly behind with 183. The Thunderbolts have committed the most errors with 57, while DC has the second most with 44.
The Thunderbolts have seen success against the Grays in 2026 with a 2-1 record. In all three games, All-Star pitcher Christian Dray (Richmond) stepped up and delivered dominant performances on the mound. The last time they visited Talbot Field, the TBolts defeated DC 13-5 for their first win of the summer. In that game, Mason Kelleher (Frostburg St.) and Nolan Kutney (UMBC) each had three-hit days. Kutney is looking to continue his hot hitting after hammering his first home run of the season on Wednesday against Bethesda.
Tonight, the TBolts have a pitcher on the mound who is not named Christian Dray. Emilio Rodriguez (La Salle) will make his second start of the summer for Silver Spring-Takoma. In his last start on the hill, Rodriguez threw three innings, allowed three hits, issued four walks, and struck out five against the Braves. While he is a newer addition to the pitching staff—having made his first appearance on June 24—the righty has established himself as one of the most electric arms on the team.
First pitch tonight will take place at Robert J. Talbot Field on the grounds of Catholic University. As always, be sure to tune into the Thunderbolts’ YouTube channel for live play-by-play coverage of tonight’s action.
